Open a Whole New World of Possibilities
What is Cord Tissue?
Cord tissue refers to the umbilical cord itself. Traditionally, it was discarded as medical waste after the baby is born. But now, we know that cord tissue is a rich source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).
MSCs have different capabilities than the hematopoietic stem cells from cord blood. They can rapidly divide and regenerate a variety of different cell types in our bodies, like muscles, nerves and cartilage.
What is Cord Tissue Banking?
Cord tissue banking involves collecting, processing and cryogenically preserving mesenchymal stem cells from cord tissue.
We now offer expectant parents the option to bank both cord blood and cord tissue for their newborn.
Extend your reach by choosing to bank both cord blood and cord tissue stem cells.
Benefits the Entire Family
Cord tissue stem cells are highly compatible with other family members. Parents have a 100% chance of being compatible. The chance of compatibility is 75% for siblings, and 25% for grandparents. Clinical trials are currently exploring the use of cord tissue stem cells to treat diseases like arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and heart disease.
Cord Tissue: Emerging Stem Cell Research
Mesenchymal stem cells are being studied for their unique ability to repair and regenerate tissue. You can learn more about clinical trials involving stem cells in our clinical trials database.
“We are expecting our third child and our whole family is getting ready for our baby to arrive. We banked cord blood for our first two children with Healthcord and will do the same for this baby. We want to do everything we could for our children, and like to think of it as “insurance” in case our children ever need it.”
